Hostels at IISER M -- your home for the next 5 years :)

They are situated in a Hostel Complex, which is aptly located quite near to the Lecture Hall Complex (LHC) and the Academic Buildings where all the first-year classes and Lab Classes are held. Having said that, one can always can wake up late and still make it to the morning lectures (not saying that that's how it should be :p). Also, since the campus is conveniently small, one does not really need bicycles to commute.

There are 4 hostel buildings, interestingly called Hostel 5,6,7 and 8 (because why not?). They are beautifully designed with ample balcony spaces to allow good ventilation. Each building is partitioned into two wings- the girl’s wing and the boys’ wing. Both the wings have separate entrances and entry of opposite gender is not allowed. There are common rooms like the Air-conditioned study rooms, canteens, laundry rooms with fully automatic washing machines and the Mess. IISER M doesn't have separate Mess buildings. We have four individual messes in each hostel, occupying the ground floors. (Mind you, the food is good!)

Each floor has a sufficient number of washrooms and all buildings are equipped with Lifts and Fire Emergency Systems.  A group of dedicated sanitation staff keeps the hostel premises spotless and we have 24*7 security guards manning the hostel area.

As of now, since there is a hostel space crunch in IISER Mohali, 1st year and 2nd year students are supposed to share a room. However, from the third year onwards, each student is entitled to a single room. Rooms are well designed with individual balconies looking over to campus scenery.

Each hostel also has co-curricular activity room: Hostel 5 houses the Gym, Hostel 6 has a Music Room, Hostel 7 has a Dance Room and there is a Table Tennis Room in Hotel 8. There is also a basketball court and an ATM right in the hostel complex.

Since there are no separate hostels for BS-MS or PhD scholars, the hostel population is really diverse. This leads to an academic atmosphere unique to IISER Mohali, where one can always expect interesting discussions on a multitude of subjects with people pursuing different subjects and research fields.

 

Overall, your Hostel Life is going to be really chill.
